The Bonnet Carré Spillway will be open on Monday, May 9, 2011 in order to keep the volume of Mississippi River flows at New Orleans from exceeding 1.25 million cubic feet per second (cfs). Opening procedures will begin at approximately 8 a.m. Media and the general public are allowed to view the spillway opening at the Bonnet Carré Spillway Project Office, located at 16302 River Roadin Norco, Louisiana. The opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway can be watched from your computer by going to the following link http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bonnet-carre. We anticipate the channel will be live at approximately 0755 on Monday, May 9, 2011.

* IMPACT...AT 64.0 FEET...MAJOR FLOODING IS IN PROGRESS. ANGOLA

LANDING WILL REMAIN UNDER WATER AND FERRY SERVICE WILL BE TERMINATED. ALL RIVER ISLANDS, RECREATIONAL CAMPS, AND RIVER BOTTOM FARM LAND WILL BE UNDER WATER.

* IMPACT...AT 54.0 FEET...ALL RIVER ISLANDS ALONG THE REACH FROM RED

* FORECAST...THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE RISING TO A STAGE OF 42.4 FEET ON THURSDAY MAY 12TH AND WILL CONTINUE RISING TO A CREST NEAR

47.5 FEET ON MONDAY EVENING MAY 23RD.

* IMPACT...AT 43.0 FEET...SHIPPING AND INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITIES ARE

SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED. UNPROTECTED LOW-LYING AREAS WILL BE FLOODED

AND AGRICULTURAL OPERATIONS WILL BE IMPACTED ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE RIVER. THE CITY OF BATON ROUGE IS PROTECTED BY LEVEES AT THIS LEVEL.

* IMPACT...AT 38.0 FEET...RIVER TRAFFIC AND INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY ON THE RIVER SIDE OF THE LEVEES WILL BE GREATLY AFFECTED. NAVIGATIONAL

* MODERATE FLOODING IS FORECAST.

* FLOOD STAGE IS 17.0 FEET.

* FORECAST...THE RIVER IS EXPECTED TO RISE ABOVE FLOOD STAGE ON WEDNESDAY MORNING

MAY 11TH AND CONTINUE RISING TO A CREST NEAR 19.5 FEET ON TUESDAY MORNING MAY 24TH.

* IMPACT...AT 17.0 FEET...THE RIVER WILL RISE ON THE LEVEE MAKING

NAVIGATION AND DOCKING DIFFICULT. THE CITY IS PROTECTED TO A

PROJECT HEIGHT OF 20 FEET.
